Fort Kent - Robert "Bob" Edgar Marquis, 81, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at a Fort Kent health care facility. Bob was born April 7, 1938, to Edgar and Carmen (Cyr) Marquis.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Rachel; his loving children and their spouses: Carl and Paula Marquis of Massachusetts, Peter and Moira Marquis of Eagle Lake, and Monique and Wesley Grant of Houlton; his ten grandchildren: Akami, Elysha, Chelsey, Paige, Alec, Kole, Liam, Lucas, Morgan, and Madison; his six siblings: Claudette Paradis of Fort Kent, Roger Marquis and his wife Marion of Florida, Jacqueline and her husband John Kiely of California, Jim Marquis and his wife Linda of Fort Kent, Louise and her husband Roger Pelletier of Dedham, and Carol and her husband Krayton Allen of Hermon; his in-laws Allan and Patricia Dow of Fort Kent, Joel and Rena Michaud of Winthrop, and Jean Paul Michaud and Jerry Wentland of Brooklyn; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and good friends.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; his daughter Ann; his son David; his brother Patrick; and his brothers-in-law Roger Paradis, Richard Michaud and John Kindsfather.
After graduation from Fort Kent High School in 1956, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Once his enlistment was over, he moved back home to Fort Kent and met his sweetheart from Ste. Agathe, Rachel Michaud. Bob worked at Daigle and Houghton for sixteen years, achieving the title of Service Manager, before starting "Bob Marquis & Sons", servicing radiators, hydraulic jacks and fire extinguishers throughout the St. John Valley for nearly forty years. He went on to establish two other businesses, Top of Maine Snowmobile Rentals and R&R Public Storage, creating a well-earned life for him and his family through his hard work and dedication. Bob loved the town of Fort Kent and volunteered his time often. He was part of the creation of "Pat's Ride", a nonprofit event aimed at providing a day of snowmobiling to community members with special needs. He was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus in the #0352 Council. Bob enjoyed watching his family grow and spend time together, especially at their family camp on Eagle Lake. For over thirty years, he and his siblings brought their families together for games and family time, reuniting on Round Pond and more recently on Eagle Lake. He won thousands of cribbage games with family and friends in his lifetime; even into his last few months, he was hard to beat. Bob was quite the card! His heartfelt, boisterous laugh will be missed at family gatherings. A faithful man, a family man, and a friendly man, it is with heavy hearts that we see him begin his 5th day.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday February 1, 2020 at 10am at the St. Agatha Catholic Church, with full Military and Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus honors. Family and friends are invited to call at the Lajoie Funeral Home in Madawaska from 8-9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the David J. Marquis Scholarship, P.O. Box 34, Fort Kent Mills, Maine 04744.
