Ernest (Ernie) Theriault
Fort Kent - Ernest (Ernie) Theriault, a resident of Crosswinds Residential Care, died Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the age of 93 surrounded by his family. Ernie was born July 18, 1926 in Fort Kent, the son of the late Octave and Delia (Caron).
Ernie was pre-deceased by his wife of 57 years, Una (Dubois); a daughter Lorilla Ann; his stepmother Anna Annie (Pelletier); and his brothers Romeo, Hampy, Oscar, Rosaire, Patrick; and his sister, Irene Babin.
He is survived by a son, Joel, of Carmel ME and special friend Leslie Edgell; and four daughters, Gloria Eldridge and her husband Jim of New Market MD, Helen Nadeau and her husband Paul of Eagle Lake ME, Theresa Theriault of Madawaska ME and Janet Saucier and her husband Dana of Fort Kent ME; he also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Kimberly Eldridge of Manchester NH, Terry Caron of Fort Kent ME, Chantal Graves of Presque Isle ME, Wayne Saucier of Bali Indonesia, Colby Eldridge of New Market MD, Doug Cyr of Fort Kent ME, Jason Saucier of Philadelphia PA, Sasha Shaw of Mapleton ME, Tracy Daigle of Portland ME, Jeff Saucier of Hermon ME; 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Ernie provided for his family as a potato farmer for 25+ years and as a logger for 20 years. When he sold his logging truck, he worked for Great Northern Paper Company for a few years until the late 1980s. After retiring, Ernie was a school bus driver for SAD #27 and then later was the driver for the recreational bus on Senior Citizen trips. For a period of time, Ernie enjoyed making his monthly rounds visiting the elderly at the Nursing Homes in the St John Valley. He was a Fourth-Degree Honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #0352, a lifelong member of Holy Family Parish in Daigle and the St. Louis Parish in Fort Kent. Ernie served as a Eucharistic Minister and brought Holy Communion to the sick and home bound. He was also an Alter Server at daily Masses and funeral Masses for many years. After his Cursillo weekend in 1979, Ernie actively served for 18 years as a volunteer as others had their encounter with Christ. Ernie belonged to a men's prayer group until he started living at an assisted living facility. For the last 12 years, he has resided at Crosswinds Residential Care where he enjoyed the love and care of the staff. Ernie was an active participant of the activities provided by Crosswinds and both his smile and good-hearted teasing were enjoyed by fellow residents and staff.
At Ernie's request, there will be no viewing hours. The Mass of Christian Burial, with Fourth Degree honors, will be at the St. Louis Church on Thursday, October 17, 2019, at 10:00 A.M. Those wishing to remember Ernie in a special way may make gifts to the Activities Department at the Crosswinds Residential Care Facility, 40 Village Rd., Fort Kent, ME 04743. Envelopes will be available at the church and at the luncheon.
