Grand Isle - Alcide Fortin, 87, passed away on May 6, 2019, in Caribou, Maine. He was born in Grand Isle on March 6, 1932, a son of George and Agnes Fortin.
In November of 1959, he married Jaqueline Gendreau and together had 5 children. He was a self-employed Potato Farmer from 1958 until 1996, a business of which he and his brother, Aldrie, co-owned. He was a member of the Grand Isle Fire Department for 33 years, and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Jaqueline (Gendreau) Fortin; daughters, Lisa Green of New Hampshire and Susan Fortin of Rhode Island; sons, Gary Fortin of Virginia and Brian Allan Fortin of Maine; grandchildren, Margaret "Maggie" Green, Patrick Green and Brandon Fortin; siblings, Lucille Doucette of Connecticut, Irene Caron of Florida, Aldrie and his wife Marietta Fortin of Maine, Edna and her husband Raymond Gene Deprey of Maine, Georgianne Theriault of Canada, Lucien and his wife Pricille Fortin of Connecticut, Elmer and his wife Irene Fortin of Maine, Gil Fortin of Maine, Ivan and his wife Joyce Fortin of Connecticut, and Joseph Nelson and his wife Irene Fortin of Maine. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Ronald Fortin and two sisters, Rella Fortin and Yvonne Fortin Rioux.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10am Saturday, May 11, 2019, at St. Gerard Catholic Church. Family and friends may offer condolences at Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Friday, May 10, 2019. There will be no visiting hours before the service.
